How to play Memory Pairs

Memory Pairs gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A useful example

Turn over one card, remember its position, then choose a second. A matching pair stays found; a mismatch is hidden again. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. Compare the situation with the worked example. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
