How to play Table Tennis

Take a moment with Table Tennis before moving to another game. Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

rally/service model, win-by-two and alternating deuce service.

Focus on one rule

Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Reach eleven points with a two-point lead. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Serve.
  2. Move the lower paddle under the ball.
  3. Hit after the bounce near your baseline.
  4. A missed return gives a point.

Controls

Pointer/paddle buttons; Hit / return; Space serves or hits. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

An early hit is rejected; wait while positioning the paddle. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Look for the relevant detail.

Watch out for this

The ball-flight model is timing-based, not full tournament physics. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
