How to play Word Deduction

Make Word Deduction your next activity in the game library. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

With APPLE as the answer and ALLEE as the guess, the first A and final E are in the right places. The extra L and E are not both counted as present. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
